Tip 29: Watch life grow and blossom

After being a daddy, I shared with a senior colleague of mine that I will have to be more serious at work since I am a committed breadwinner now. This Japanese colleague of mine in his late 40s and has a single child aged 5 years old said, "Do not miss watching your baby grow up at every stage of life - it is the miracle of life. You can only see it as a daddy and no money can buy that experience." Unfortunately, he was not my manager. But his words stayed on my mind as I journeyed home that day to see my week old baby. I carried my baby and suddenly I felt that miracle in my arms. It was never the same again. I had saw life through Haruka and valued and loved it so deeply.

The balance between work and private life is a tough call to make. I may be sharing more tips in the future as I discover new lessons through God's loving grace. But one thing for sure, is to see through our children as not mere commitments, assets or our pride of life. See life inside of them and see them learn, grow and love. Pour your love towards them to have them love. And may they blossom to be a beautiful flower full of love. From holding a weak, small baby to seeing it getting stronger and responding to your touch - is the miracle of life. Respect that life and be awed by it and in response give thanks to the Almighty - the giver of all life. Its easy to be possessed with the commitment and burden to provide well for the family and focus only on work and come back home merely seeing a beautiful baby that is healthy and well, being the pride of our physical features. But, the baby is more than an asset and our replica image. It is life. Spend the little time we have to observe her eyes, her curiosity and her love. It could be me maturing or it could be the Japanese culture around me where even a leaf is not plucked out or tree cut down with little regard, but all these are life and they come from God. And what more life from our flesh and blood in our arms. Its a miracle and most humbling that we who often fail, can have such a huge priviledge to nurture life.
