Gently on the babytub,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.
I realized later that this nursery rhyme should have been Row your Boat but you can not row a baby can you? Not at least below 3 months. But from 2 weeks to 1 month onwards, you can start having some fun at the baby tub. Hold with both hands and let your baby float on the water and moving him/her slightly from one end of the baby tub to the other end. Its not such a long distance since most baby tubs are not very long. When the baby grows longer than the baby tub, you may want to progress to a longer tub or the adult bath tub. But from 2 weeks onwards, even if the baby does not smile that he/she is excited, the baby would later express that he/she wants more.
Haruka enjoys her bath with daddy. And even if she prefers mummy to carry her or would cry when mummy goes to the restroom while daddy is with her, she would never miss a moment to be with daddy during bath time. I would repeatedly utter the Japanese words ichi, ni, san (one, two, three) when touching the base of one end of the bath tub and then moving away from it. Almost like preparing to swim away from the edge. And I realized that because I tried these legs and hands exercises and gentle swimming movements early on, Haruka started kicking at an early age and developed a strong backbone. Besides, daddy can always tailor these exercises to be as gentle as possible so that daddy is being sensitive to the baby's physical developments. While we daddies and mummies are all excited to see our babies grow and develop as best as can be, we can always take joy that we have been blessed with life and that is most praiseworthy and deserving thanks. Be thankful and be joyful and have fun that is appropriate for the baby. Life may not be a dream, but it can be full of thanksgiving and joy that we forget whatever burdens we carry.
